Secularism, Religion, and Democracy: New Perspectives

The essential difference between Islam and secularism is not about calling for an absolute political power based on religious metaphysical claims that disregards the role of human beings in opposition to a secularism which calls for a relatively temporal and worldly authority according to claims by many secular intellectuals. On the contrary, the root of the issue is found in the theoretical bases of both of the aforementioned concepts, specifically, the role of the religious principles in directing the life of the public and the individual.
